The HotFutbol After School Program operates 4 afternoons per week and involves over 160 children from the age of 6 through 14 years old. About 20% of the participants are girls, and our hope is to move steadily toward 40% over the next year.
HotFutbol currently employs 8 coaches, 4 groundskeepers, a gardener, and our In Country Program Director. A Haitian physician specializing in sports medicine has been consulting to the program, providing health status updates on the participating children.
The girls in the program participated in Girls Soccer Day at the National Stadium, sponsored by CONCACAF (Confederation Of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football).
The After School Program just completed their summer camp and end of year internal soccer tournament, culminated with an awards ceremony.
Competitive, age-based teams are now involved in tournament play.
Speakers regularly present workshops on health and community improvement, including cholera prevention, trash recycling, nutrition, and social development issues.
